Along with springtime we more often think about spending our free time actively in the open air, and this includes playing golf. During this season the activity of both amateur and professional golf players is increasing, as well as the activity of “players” on investment market. Springtime, especially in golf industry, is always an incentive to intensify business activity, both in Poland and outside of it.
One of regular business meetings, which stimulate business growth, is Golf Business Forum organized annually by KPMG, which this year took place in Dubai on 17-19 April. We have just finished the 2nd edition of the international Golf Investment & Development Conference, organized in Warsaw by Universe Properties Group Sp. z.o.o, the leader in the golf real estate market and the owner of GolfProperties.pl portal. Between the 13th and 15th September 2010 representatives of the golf industry gathered in Radisson Blu Hotel to spend three days on discussing the prospects of the industry and the golf real estate market and related new challenges. The ongoing economic downturn has not discouraged the participants from attending the event and representatives of major companies appeared in the Polish capital, to share their experiences and listen to lectures by industry experts. | 7th edition of KPMG Golf Business Forum 2010 |
|
Between May 12-14, 2010 at the area of Gloria Hotels and Resorts in Belek, Turkey for the seventh time the forum took place on the golf industry held annually by KPMG. In this important event attended by nearly 250 people from around the world related to the golf industry, while Poland was represented by GolfProperties.pl. This year’s Forum has hosted many distinguished personalities, but a unique place among the professionals who came took two people: Greg Norman, who has received the KPMG Award for Lifetime Achievement and Annika Sorenstam, who in turn was honored as the Entrepreneur of the Year. Forum opened a discussion regarding the golf industry outlook for the coming year, and the impact of the crisis on its further development. According to Andrea Sartori, Head of KPMG’s Golf Advisory Practice in EMA: “We realize that it takes some time before the golf industry will return to old form. In the face of economic slowdown, many investments have been held, there have been delays and in some cases completely abandoned the implementation of development projects, which was caused by economic instability, market liquidity, and changing consumer requirements.”
Poland, together with its 34 existing golf clubs, 13 18-hole golf and a few 9-hole, has been recognized as a leader region of Central Europe - Eastern Europe in terms of development of the golf industry. According to Maciej Kawecki, President of GolfProperties.pl: “All these elements form a very attractive prospects for future of golf in Poland. At present, several golf projects are in operation, except that many investors are considering taking investment activities, some of them in the preparatory work is very advanced, even in the near future we expect to launch several additional golf investments in Poland. The following topics that were raised during the forum concerned, among others:
• golf development projects in Central and Eastern Europe,
• selection of marketing strategies among developers
• maximizing investment returns through appropriate golf course design and planned club operations,
• best practices related to golf course design, taking into account the environmental aspect of the investment
• the role of women in the golf industry

| We attended in MIPIM 2010 in Cannes – world’s larget real estate venue |

While nobody could be in any doubt that the recession is still with us, it was plain from informal conversations around MIPIM and presentations on conference platforms that there are signs for optimism and there is activity in the market. With 17,300 attendees from 81 countries and 1,720 exhibiting companies, attendance figures for MIPIM 2010 were comparable with those of 2009; and this stabilisation was also reflected in the mood among delegates attending the event. Markets are turning the corner and the property sector is making ready for the future. There were encouraging signs of activity with a number of mergers and acquisitions among the MIPIM real estate community as well as property transactions announced.
